ABOUT OUR CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE SCHOOL

Aloha and welcome to the West Kauai Nurse Aide Training Program.  Our program is certified and licensed by the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services.  We have been in operation since 2008.  This is a 100 hour training course.

Our training program provides comprehensive nurse aide training and prepares students for a rewarding career as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

We have classes almost every month. Starting from January to November. The classes run for 3 weeks. Start time is 5 PM to 11 PM. Monday through Friday with a clinical weekend at the end of the 3 weeks. Click on Classes for 2018 to see the schedule for 2018!

STUDENT ADMISSIONS

Academic achievement is only a small part of the picture in a student’s life, and is often weighted far too heavily in school admissions offices. West Kauai Nurse Aide Training Program selects students based on indicators of their future potential; characteristics including intellectual curiosity, perseverance in the face of adversity, and creativity. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

The Information You Need

WHO CAN APPLY?​

  • Immigrant nurse while preparing for their State Nursing Licensure

  • Nursing Assistants

  • Caregivers, Personal Care Assistants

  • Home Health Aides

  • Certified Nurse Assistants whose certificates have expired.

  • Certified Nurse Assistants from another state whose certificate is not endorsed by State of Hawaii.

  • Nursing students who want to start working in HealthCare field.

Training/Admission Requirements

  • Participate in person interview with Program Director or instructor to assess the applicant’s personal desire and commitment for becoming a Certified Nurse Aide. This interview will also assess the academic and behavioral requirements expected of students and their understating and acceptance of their financial obligation for the class fee.

  • Have a criminal history report free of prohibitive offenses.

  • A two-step Mantoux Test (TB Test)

  • Hepatitis B Vaccination.

  • The occupational responsibilities of a CNA may involve having full use of their hands, ability to stand for extensive periods of time, ability to perform bending, pushing, pulling and lift and move between 35-50 lbs.

  • Women who are pregnant must have a signed letter from their OB/GYN Physician stating that they are able to meet the occupational responsibilities.

  • West Kauai Nurse Aide Training Program reserves the right to deny admission to an applicant on the basis of the interview if it deems that the applicant does not possess the aptitude and desire necessary for successful completion of the program

  • The candidate must be 18 years of age before taking the Hawaii NAT Certification Examination

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

BACK GROUND CHECK

We do a background check as a requirement for acceptance.

Policy:

All individuals applying for the State Approved Certified Nurse Aide Program provided or presented by WEST KAUAI NURSE AIDE TRAINING PROGRAM will have a criminal background check done as a requirement for acceptance into the program.

Purpose:

Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services policy § 483.13 (c) (l) (ii) states that: “nursing facilities not employ individuals who have been found guilty of abusing, neglecting, mistreating by a court of law”; or “have had findings entered into the State nurse aide registry concerning abuse, neglect, mistreatment, misappropriation of their property”.

The following questions will be asked on the State of Hawaii Nurse Aide Testing Application. Please be informed that any “yes” answer will need further explanation of the violation to the State’s Licensing Division (OHCA), and the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affair (DCCA) will be reviewing your application before you can take the examination.

*In the past 20 years, have you been convicted of a crime for which the conviction has not been annulled  or expunged?

*Has your nurse aide certification ever been revoked, suspended or otherwise subject to disciplinary action by another State registry?

*Are you presently been being investigated or is any disciplinary action pending against you?

If a student’s background check is returned with a conviction “of abusing, neglecting, mistreating by a court of law”; or “have had findings entered into the State nurse aide registry concerning abuse, neglect, mistreatment, misappropriation of their property”, the student will be disqualified or not be accepted in to the program.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

TUITION/DROP POLICY

Tuition must be paid in full upon submission of the completed application form.

Tuition is $1800 payable by cash, check, or credit card.  Credit card payments have a 3% service fee.

Drop Policy:  Students wishing to drop the class prior to start of classes will receive a tuition refund, less a refund charge as follows:

Refund Charge:                                   For cancellation up to:

20%                                                       8 to 14 days before class starts

30%                                                       3 to 7 days before class starts

50%                                                       1 to 2 days before class starts

100%                                                     Day of class or thereafter – NO REFUND


THE STATE EXAM FEE FOR NURSE AIDE CERTIFICATION IS NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR TUITION.

The state Nurse Assistant Certification Test fee held at the training site is $225.00 payable to “Prometrics” three weeks prior to the scheduled exam. Credit card or money order is accepted as payment to Prometrics.
